Old Street, London
Warner Media’s brands are world leaders in creating premium content. They operate one of the world’s largest TV and film studios and own a deep library of entertainment. They also manage popular digital sites such as Bleacher Report and a growing family of streaming services including HBO, Cartoon Network, CNN, NOW, Boomerang and DC Universe.
When Warner Media (WM) decided to relocate their EMEA HQ from 16 Great Marlborough Street, they knew that moving the infrastructure to the 5 floors at 160 Old Street would prove challenging for both the Network Infrastructure Team and Mobile Telephony teams. Mobile Telephony is a major service in this organisation, with the client having both EE and Vodafone users in different divisions who need to remain in constant communication.
The high quality state of the art building refurbishment at 160 Old street utilised modern building materials and cladding / insulation that essentially resulted in significant loss of mobile signal strength and quality across all floors.
Zonewave were selected against other vendors to survey, report and quote for the provision of installing a Mobile Telephony Solution to the lower 3 of the 5 occupied floors of the WM space at 160 Old Street.
We conducted several site surveys and design meetings in conjunction with the technical teams, as well as extensive review of their cabling infrastructure and multiple TR’s. Our proposal was a complex installation of a Cel-Fi Quatra solution consisting of 2 2x2 MIMO External Antennas, 6 Network Units(NU), 22 Coverage Units(CU) and 18 POE Extenders. WM approved the design and proposals, allowing Zonewave to implement to the agreed design and timescales.
Such a complex consortium of companies and infrastructures presented its own challenges in relation to Project Management, not to mention the internal complexities of construction, Film studios, Sound booths, and Auditorium. The implementation had to meet strict building regulations and tight commercial deadlines, as well as not disrupting the many other contractors who were onsite involved in the fitout.
The solution provided a minimum 30dBm improvement in signal strength, uniformly across all floors. It allowed the 1200+ staff to be truly agile in their work methods, allowing them to move across locations within the occupied space, with the installed coverage network units providing optimal signal strength and quality to their respective carrier.
After the installation was completed, Zonewave attended site and carried out a post install survey and completed detailed handover providing full documentation to the client.
Thank you Neil, Paul, and team for your hard work and professionalism. Great job and enjoyed working with Zonewave.
Pure Offices were founded in 2007 to offer a personalised and flexible managed office solution to businesses around the country. By carefully designing the Pure Offices locations to maximise light and natural ventilation, they have created modern offices built to meet the demands of the modern business workplace. As with many modern building refurbishments requiring energy efficient and environmentally friendly services and construction, the result is a significantly degraded mobile signal service internally. Pure Offices in Nottingham, was one of the worst affected out of 20 UK locations, and had recently had a non compliant booster solution removed by the regulator Ofcom, leaving the tenants with very poor mobile signal on all Carrier Networks.
Zonewave were selected against other vendors to survey, report and quote for the provision of installing a Mobile Telephony Solution to the 3 occupied floors, for all Networks.
After conducting a detailed site survey, report, solution design and quotation, we were commissioned to provide the solution. Our proposal was a complex installation of a 12 x GO X units (3 per floor), 4 SISO External Antennas, and a Passive DAS of Low Loss Coaxial Cabling, and multiple Omni Antennas throughout.
PURE Office IT approved the design proposals, allowing Zonewave to implement to the agreed budget and timescales.
Working in an occupied Office environment presented its own challenges in relation to minimising disruption, not to mention the internal complexities of construction as part of the building was being fitted out for a new client. Balancing the Passive DAS, to provide uniform signal coverage and penetration into key areas was also a challenge. The implementation had to meet strict building regulations and tight commercial deadlines and budget.
The solution provided a minimum 30dBm improvement in signal strength, uniformly across the worst affected areas. Tenants were happy with the new coverage, as was Pure Offices (our client). After the installation was completed, Zonewave carried out a post install survey, completed a detailed handover providing full documentation to the client, and were rewarded by being given the same opportunity at a further 6 locations around the UK.
Hounslow Civic Centre
The Civic Centre in Hounslow Town Centre is a seven-storey building designed as a hub for the local community. As well as accommodating all the council’s office staff and civic meeting rooms, it features a “state-of-the-art” library on the first floor, exhibition space and café.
Bouygues UK was the main contractor for the office project. Construction started in January 2017, and towards the end of the construction period they came to us to ensure the centre could offer first class, consistent mobile signal that matched the standard of their creation.
Due to the divisional design of the new construction, all floors were segregated into 46 distinct separate areas distributed over 6 floors, requiring a carefully thought out hybrid digital and DAS solution. It required an extensive installation of 22 Network Units(NU), and 66 Coverage Units(CU) with an attached DAS to reach all areas in scope.
Main challenges were implementing a balanced design, keeping the solution on budget, and ensuring it was project managed to meet required timescales.
All areas of the building now benefit from reliable coverage with an average -65dBm (3G) and -69dBm (4G) on all Networks. This site benefits from Zonewave’s unique Support Maintenance and Monitoring offering.
Health and Safety and Anti-Terrorism
The Royal Opera House (ROH) is an opera house and major performing arts venue in Covent Garden, central London, the main auditorium seats 2,256 people, making it the third largest in the city. A solution was required to satisfy Health & Safety and Anti-Terrorism requirement’s as Performances which involved the Armoury meant that all personnel had to be accounted for and tracked using a Armory Management & Tracking System (the 'Buddy' system) which required cellular signal coverage.
Our solution was the extensive installation of a hybrid active DAS system, as this solved the challenging and complex coverage issues presented between the two Armoury’s, Walkways, and various Backstage areas.
There was a vast area to cover which consisted mainly of corridors from their armoury stores through to back stage areas, due to the distances involved, our solution design had to finely balance the distribution antenna system (DAS) and split the solution in two parts to maintain connectivity.
Stable EE mobile signal throughout the facility to keep the Buddy solution working to track all members carrying arms to keep them safe in the event of a Terrorist attack.
A former iron works in Hammersmith, London, Riverside Studios has a long legacy and reputation as a boundary-pushing home for the arts and creative expression. This dynamic cultural venue is home to a confluence of theatre, film, music, dance, comedy, visual art, enterprise, innovative technology, event’s and hospitality.
The recent building refurbishment utilising modern building materials, location, and below ground lower production levels were causing significant loss of mobile signal strength and quality throughout the facility.
Zonewave were selected to survey, report and quote for the installation of a Mobile Telephony Solution. After conducting a site survey and proposing a solution we completed the installation of a Multi-Layer Cel-Fi Go X solution to the agreed design and timescales.
This kind of facility presents its own challenges in relation to the internal complexities of Layout, Film studios, Sound booths, and Auditorium. The implementation had to meet strict building regulations, the Antennas had to remain discreet and were situated over 80m from the internal equipment, the Client changed the project design on the day of implementation and we had to meet tight commercial deadlines.
The original internal readings taken were between -95dBm & -120dBm (3G all networks) and -96dBm to -120dBm (4G all networks). The installed solution provided a great improvement in signal strength, uniformly throughout providing readings of -67dBm Avg. (3G all networks) and -69dBm Avg. (4G all networks). As usual after installation, Zonewave completed a post install handover.
We installed a hybrid digital and DAS mobile signal solution. And the result? Great signal and happier guests.
Marriott’s Dixon Hotel at Tower Bridge is stunning. But its mobile signal simply wasn’t good enough. An old analogue DAS system wasn’t up to the job and guests were left frequently frustrated.
